Prior to organising your immigration to Switzerland find out the details behind. Plan well to make your relocation as smooth as possible.
Entry Visa
Prior to arrival to Switzerland, most foreigners are obliged to organise their immigration to Switzerland, which in most cases mean obtaining an entry visa.
In certain cases, e.g. when the foreign national has spent the past 12 months working within the EU and is in possession of a valid EU permit, immigration to Switzerland is simplified that is entry is allowed without the need for a visa. In these cases pre-approval is necessary in order to register and take up employment.
Different Permit Types in Switzerland
There are different types of permits, valid between 1-3 years.
There are different permits for employees moving between entities within the company group, for external hires, for trainees and for EU nationals.
Additionally, family members are obliged to obtain their own permits, so these types differ from the above mentioned permits.
Prepare Your Application
In order to orgnise your immigration to Switzerland, you need to obtain a visa or permit, an application needs to filed prior to arrival in Switzerland. This requires thorough preparation.
Depending on the situation, the employer may have to prove that there are no suitable Swiss or EU nationals for the vacancy.
In practice, this process requires the employer to advertise and try to fill the position. Only if the position remains vacant may an external candidate (outside of Switzerland and EU) be considered.
Additionally, there are quarterly quotas for permits for non-EU/EFTA nationals. This means that it is important to consider the timing of filing the application to increase the chances of pre-approval being granted.
It is important to mention that salaries must be in line with the standard local salaries.
Generically speaking, only highly educated applicants and specialists can obtain approvals easily.
